My Freshman Year: This reading was very interesting to me about the many different types or aspects of things you experience as a college freshman. What I found most interesting was the chapter on dorm life. Dorm life is a great opportunity for adjusting to college, meeting new people, and learning to adjust with living in a community. This reading offers plenty of insights about college orientation, where to find things, resources, many clubs and organizations the university offers, and a chance for all the parents of students to see what the university is offering to their children. I don't believe there are really any issues in this reading besides the fact of the college adjustment which I believe is different for everyone. I do agree that the schools do a great job of welcoming new freshman and making them feel at home but I also believe that it is how you make yourself feel and that is truly the best way you can adjust yourself to a new situation like being away home from and at college. I do agree with most things in this article. Orientation is very helpful to new students giving them several previews to college life, Dorms are a way for freshman to adjust to living on their own, involvement in school activities is a great way for freshman to feel more involved on [[#|campus]]. The only thing that I did not agree about is that this reading did not really touch base on commuters, Greek life, Sport activities, and night life because although these are not the main thing students come to college for, because they are here for a education and a degree. We know and cannot forget that these are some of the biggest things at take place in a college town for the majority of our students, so I just believe it is important to talk about those things in a reading about freshman year because I believe this is the year that it is the most important to express these issues that occur because it is the year students feel they have most freedom because it is their first away from home.
Ethnography: Ethnography is the [[#|study]] of language and literacy, which in other terms is our interpretation of something. What interests me about this reading is the definitions of Grammar, Language, and Literacy being broken down and explained individually because I do believe when talking about ethnography that it can be misunderstood and interpreted. I agree that in this article hand gestures and waving are important means of communication and a great way for someone to engage in on a conversation with another person. What I like most about this article is the examples shown of Rodger and Molly and now they show his progress through the reading on how Molly was helping him. Rodger learned not only to communicate with his mouth or hands but also through drawings which is what I can most understand about this article because drawing and art is an important and very often forgotten way of learning to communicate with someone and that is show is this article and I believe it was really important. What I did not enjoy and agree with about this article was the way the chapters were set up, I think they could of broke the reading up into different parts with a more clear and understanding of what was being thought.
